The 10 Signs You Might Be in Menopause (And Yes, It’s Probably Not Just You) | Grief & Joy

If you’ve recently walked into a room and forgotten why you’re there…
Started sweating like you just ran a marathon…
Or gained weight by breathing…

You might be wondering:

“What on earth is happening to me?”

Welcome to the club.
You may be marching into menopause.

And while it can feel confusing (and sometimes ridiculous), the truth is millions of women are experiencing the same things at the exact same time.

Let’s talk about the signs.

1. The Infamous Hot Flash

Suddenly you're hotter than the sun for absolutely no reason.

One minute you're fine.
The next minute you're peeling off layers, opening windows, and questioning your life choices.

Hot flashes and night sweats are among the most common menopause symptoms, often arriving without warning.

2. Brain Fog That Makes You Question Everything

You forget names.
Words disappear mid-sentence.
You walk into the kitchen and stare blankly at the refrigerator.

Brain fog is incredibly common during menopause, with many women reporting memory lapses and losing their train of thought. If I hadn't been "lucky" enough to experience widow fog, I seriously would have thought I was losing my mind!

3. Mood Swings That Come Out of Nowhere

Yesterday you were calm.

Today:

  • you're irritated

  • emotional

  • ready to cry

  • ready to start a revolution

Hormonal fluctuations during menopause can cause mood changes, irritability, anxiety, and emotional sensitivity.

So if you snapped at someone breathing too loudly or wanted to throat punch someone…
You're not alone.

4. Sleep Suddenly Becomes a Stranger

Remember when you used to sleep all night? I sure do!

Now you wake up:

  • sweating

  • thinking

  • worrying

  • wide awake at 3 a.m.

Sleep disturbances and insomnia are common during menopause due to hormonal changes and night sweats.

I choose to use my new wake up times to get work done for Grief & Joy!

5. Your Body Temperature Has Its Own Agenda

You can’t decide if you're:

  • freezing

  • sweating

  • both at the same time

Your internal thermostat has clearly resigned.

6. Your Tolerance for Nonsense Drops Dramatically

This might actually be one of menopause's hidden gifts.

Suddenly:

  • you say no more often

  • you set boundaries

  • you stop apologizing for everything

Many women discover a new sense of clarity and confidence during midlife transitions.

7. Random Aches and Pains Appear

Joint stiffness.
Muscle aches.
Things popping and creaking.

Hormonal changes can affect joints and muscles during menopause. I have chosen to utilize HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and this has significantly reduced the random aches and pains for me.

8. You Forget What You Were Saying… Mid-Sentence

This happens to almost everyone in menopause.

You’re telling a story and suddenly…

Wait… what was I saying again?

9. You Feel Like You're Losing Your Mind

Many women feel confused during menopause because symptoms go far beyond hot flashes, including emotional and cognitive changes.

But here’s the truth:

You’re not losing your mind.
Your body is just going through a major hormonal shift.

I have missed turns or taking wrong turns while driving more in the last year than my whole life!

10. You Realize You're Not Alone

This might be the most important realization of all.

Menopause happens to every woman eventually, usually between the ages of 45 and 55.

And once women start talking about it openly, something powerful happens:

We laugh.
We share stories.
We realize we’re all in this together.

Finding Humor in the Middle of It All

Menopause can be frustrating, confusing, and exhausting.

But it can also be strangely funny.

Because sometimes the only reasonable response to:

  • sweating through your sheets

  • forgetting simple words

  • crying over commercials

…is laughter.

That’s where Grief & Joy lives.

In the space where real life happens—
the messy, emotional, sometimes hilarious parts of being human.

A Little Humor Goes a Long Way

If you or a friend are navigating menopause, a little humor can make the journey easier.

At Grief & Joy, our menopause collection is designed to say the things many of us are thinking—with warmth, honesty, and a wink.

Because sometimes the best support is simply knowing someone else gets it.

Final Thought

Menopause may change a lot of things.

But it also brings something powerful:

Perspective.
Confidence.
And the freedom to laugh at the chaos.

And if you’re currently sweating while reading this…
